7. Jesse Cobb (Asa\Acey , John ) was born in 1790 in South Carolina. He died in 1864 in Fentress County, Tennessee. He was buried in Old Evans Cemetery, Fentress County, Tennessee.
Jesse Cobb, according to 1860 census, settled in Poplar Cove, Tennessee.He was Register of Deeds and was on the committee to set voting districtsfor Fentress County in 1836, and was a well-to-do farmer. He was givenpower of attorney by his brother-in-law, Sevier Stevens, before he leftfor war in Mexico where he died in service at Puebla.
Taken from "The History of Fentress County,Tennessee" by Albert A.Hogue, Jesse Cobb came from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in about 1818. Hemarried and settled in Poplar Cove. He was Register of the county beforethe war and was a well to do farmer.
Jesse Cobb fought under Jackson at the battle of Horseshoe Bend. He was ademocrat and attended the convention that instructed the State for JamesK. Polk. He was associated with Attorney General John B. McCormack inbuilding a mill on the East Fork. Five thousand dollars was borrowed bythem from a Sparta bank to carry on the work. A hugh dam was built acrossthe river at great expense, the remains of which can yet be seen, but itsoon washed away and the mill project was abanonded. When the notes felldue Jesse was compelled to pay them, which he did by taking a drove ofmules to Georgia each year for five years, paying a thousand dollars foreach year, in accordance with the compromise in Circuit Court of FentressCounty. Jesse Cobb died in 1864 on the Wolf River and was buried in theOld Evans Cemetery.
Jesse married Jenetta Jurunella Stephens daughter of Thomas Granser Stephens and Sarah Sally Miller. Jenetta was born in 1797 in South Carolina. She died in Fentress County, Tennessee.
