1. Daniel Looper was born in 1750. He died in 1808 in Iredell County, North Carolina. He was buried in Hopewell Cem., Iredell County, North Carolina.
The name of Daniel Looper does not appear in the North CarolinaCensus of
1784 - 1787. Daniel Luper is listed in the 1790 Federal Census in the
Salisbury District of Rowan County. This area later became Iredell Countyand
still later became Alexander County. He was listed as head of a family,16 or
over; with a son under 16 and 2 females. This probably means he was ayoung
married man with a young son and daughter.
In a land where money was scarce, he seemed to have had cash for ina land
deed dated 25th day of Sep.1791, he bought 201 acres of land from DavidWoodson
"in consideration of the sum of sixty pounds of good and lawful money".The
deed names only the Samuel William's line as the north boundary, the other
markers being stakes and trees.
This deed is registered in the Iredell County Court House (Deed BookB,
page 579, date 1797). On the top of page 579 is the conclusion of anotherdeed
by David Woodson and Daniel Looper signed as a witness. He signed it byhis
mark (X) so apparently he could not write.
On the 29th day of Oct., 1794 "in consideration of the sum of seventy
pounds hard money" he bought 151 acres of land from Humphry Roberts. "Acertain
piece or parcel of land lying in County of Iredell on the bridge branchof the
waters of Rockey Creek on the east side of Coles old survey___to a blackoak
near a _?__ branch___stake on the side of the mountain".
Again on the 3rd day of March 1804, Daniel Looper was buying land,from
John Gwaltney. He bought 261 acres for four hundred dollars, described asbeing
on the north side of Rockey Creek. Another deed, dated the same day was"in
consideration of the sum of fifty". It was for only 48 acres.
The last deed, dated the 16th day of Aug. 1808, was made to thechildren
of Daniel Looper by Joseph Sharpe "in consideration of the sum of onethousand
dollars to him in hand paid by the said Daniel Looper in his lifetime"and was
for 612 acres lying on the head branches of Snow Creek and on thebranches of
South Yadkin__to the old line on the highest point of the round topmountain__
and exclusive of the common burying ground 12 poles square beginning at alarge
post oak and marked west, south east and north which is reserved by thesaid
Joseph as a burying ground to all future generations.
The deeds dated Mar.03,1804 were proven in open court and ordered tobe
registered Mar.25,1808. As Daniel was alive at this time, he must havedied
between Mar.25,1808 and Aug.16,1808.He had a total of 1273 acres.
Daniel married Sarah. Sarah was born about 1775. She died in 1847 in Iredell County, North Carolina. She was buried in Hopewell Cem., Iredell County, North Carolina.
