3. William Looper (Daniel ) was born in 1790 in North Carolina. He died on 4 Oct 1850 in Fentress County, Tennessee.
William Looper was born circa 1790 in North Carolina. On 1 Feb.1814 he
signed up for the war of 1812 at Salisbury,N. C., served 6 mos. and wasdischarged
4 Sep.1814. William stood the draft for a William Redman. He was a PVT. in
Capt. Thomas Crawford's Company in the Reg. Commanded by Gen. Graham andCol.
Pierson according to David Lackey and John Rector who served with him .David
and John were living in Alexander Co. N. C. in 1853. However Nelley saysher
husband,William, was a PVT. in a company commanded by Capt. John Moody inan
infantry in Tenn. We find William Looper and his family in the 1830 &
1840 Fentress Co. TN. census. To date we have not found in any 1820 or1850
census. On an 1848 Tax List, Morgan Co. TN., a William Looper was taxedon 200
acres. William is believed to have died at his son Joel Looper's home inScott
Co. TN. on 4 Oct.1850.
Eleanor Long was born 18 Nov.1802 in N. C. She always went by thename of
"Nelley". According to her son, Granville Looper's pension file, Nelleydied
sometime around 1894, probably in Clinton Co. KY
Childhood friends of both Willian and Nelley were Elijah Pile and hiswife,
Rebecca, and were living in Fentress Co. TN in 1872 where they signed
affidavits on Nelley Looper's pension application on William's War of 1812
service.
From the pension file, we know William and Nelley's first son wasborn out
of wedlock and that William and Nelley were not officially married until17
Mar.1820 in Fentress Co. TN by William Frogge, Justice of the Peace.
It would appear that Nelley named her first born son after herbrother,
Riley Long, just as it would later appear that she named her first born
daughter, Elmirah, after her sister, Elmirah Long who married ThomasScott in
1828 in Wayne Co. KY
It does appear that after William died, Nelley received 80 acres ofbounty
land/land warrants under the Act passed 28 Sep.1850 for William's servicein
the War of 1812 but at this time, we do not know where it was located.Info: Teresa M. (Kothe) Reif
