Duane's Ancestors
*Richard Tallant was born 1695 and was married to Elizabeth.  This is the fourth gr-grandparents.  This is all I know about them.  They are not proven yet.

*Thomas Tallant was born 1732 in Blount County, Tennessee and  died about 1783 in Blount County, TN.  He was married to Hannah Higdon who born in 1730. She died in Blount County, Tennessee also.

*Richard Tallant was born 3 September 1768 in Anson County, North Carolina and died 5 May 1832 in McMinn County, Tennessee.  He was married to Sarah who was born in March 1769 and died sometime between 1840/1850 on Cass County, Georgia.  Cass County is now Bartow Co. It has not been proven just who Sarah was.  It was thought that she was a Lindsey, but now Sarah Lindsey seems to have been married to Joshua Tallant.  Who was Sarah Tallant?

*James Tallant was born 27 January 1813 in Roan County, Tennessee and died in 1870 in Clark County, Arkansas and is buried in Myers Cemetery. He was married to Matilda Mitchell who was born 12 November 1815 in Tennessee.  She died 14 November 1893 in Montgomery County, Arkansas and is buried in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Glenwood, Arkansas.

*Richard Tallant was born 26 March 1839 in Cass County, Georgia.  He died 3 February 1906 in Welch, Montgomery County, Arkansas and is buried in Bethel Cemetery in Glenwood, Montgomery County, Arkansas.  He married first to Louisa Childers Hall.  Then he married Cynthia Ann Bevill born 15 August 1855 in Montgomery County, Arkansas.  She died 3 Oct 1905 in Montgomery County, Arkansas and is buried in Bethel Cemetery also.  View Richard's marker

*Thomas Jefferson Tallant was born 23 March 1882 in Welch, Montgomery County, Arkansas.  He died 18 August 1945 when his team bolted and ran away.  He is buried at Hopewell Cemetery in Hopewell, Lamar County, Texas.  He was married to Ollie Lula Huggins who was born 4 December 1885 at Rock Creek, Pike County, Arkansas.  She died 25 February 1950 in Paris, Lamar County, Texas.  She is also buried in Hopewell Cemetery.

*Duane Elmore Tallant was born 12 August 1923 in Biardstown, Lamar County, Texas.  He died at home on 23 April 1999 in Austin, Travis County, Texas.  He is buried in Hopewell Cemetery in Lamar County Texas.  He married Mary Jo Posey on 4 December 1948 in Paris, Lamar County, Texas.

This is Duane's direct line of ancestors as I know them.  The last four generations are known to be a fact.  The earlier ones need proof, but it is believed to be right.

Was the earliest Richard and Elizabeth the immigrants to the United States?  Does anyone know?

More family history can be found by clicking the link in the column on the right.

This is a picture of Henry and Lucy Alice Taylor Sturgeon.  They were married in Lamar County, Texas in 1899.  In December they arrived at Seymour, Texas from Lamar County and made their home there.  Lucy Alice is my great Aunt.  She was a sister to my grandfather Alva Lee Taylor.  What prompted this story happened yesterday (August 4, '03) when I was volunteering at the genealogy library here in Paris when I found their original marriage license.  They were married on 23 Nov 1899 by a Justice of the Peace in Lamar County. They are listed as W. H. Sturgeon and L. A. Taylor.  If any of their decendents sees this and wants the marriage license I will get it for you.  I made myself a copy, but I had rather one of their family had the original.  You can email me at the address on the bottom of this page.  I would love to hear from some of the family.  Mamie and Nita wrote to me for a while.

James DeKalb Huggins
James DeKalb Huggins b. 1 Jan 1826 Darlington County, South Carolina, died 14 Jan 1900 at Glenwood, Montgomery County Arkansas.  He was the son of James J. and Zelpha Bailey Huggins.  (I found his parents on the internet.)

J. D. married Elizabeth Galloway in South Carolina in 1850.  They were the
parents of four children.  Our line comes through J. D.'s son, Noah Leonard
Huggins from this marriage.

J. D. later married Emily Sarah Bassinger who preceded him in death also.  They had four children as well.

James Douglas Huggins shared this picture with me.  It was given to him by Jeanie Huggins Philpot.  Doug has had the picture restored. Thank you both, we are so very proud of it.  This is Duane's great-grandfather.

THE FAMILY TREE

Our family tree is tall and wide,
We know not yet its measures
Some have searched and probed for years
To seek out all its treasures.
Miles traveled here and there.
Frustration and discouragement
Brought us often to despair!

But we kept right on going
Oft' times down a dead-end street.
Detours were not uncommon,
At times the road was rough and steep.
However, if you have never tried
A project such as this,
You can't imagine all the fun
and joy that you have missed!

Through our work we've met some folks
We'd have never known were kin.
Also, once more have met other folks
Whom we hadn't seen "since when".
And now and then a lead would come
That brought forth fruit, and so. . .
With new found hope and vigor
We'd again be on the go!

Here a name and there a date,
Then slowly, bit by bit,
Our tree began to take on form
With each new piece that fit.
So here, dear folks, though not complete,
Is our family tree to treasure.
Now thanks to all of you who helped---
It has truly been a pleasure.
