Strangers in the Box

Come look with me inside this drawer,
In this box I've often seen.
At the pictures, black and white.
Faces proud, still, serene.

I wish I knew the people,
These strangers in the box,
Their names and all their memories,
Are lost among my socks.

I wonder what their lives were like?
How did they spend their days?
What about their special times?
I'll never know their ways,

If only someone had taken the time,
To tell who, what, or when,
These faces of my heritage,
Would come to life again.

Could this become the fate,
Of the pictures we take today.
The faces and the memories,
Someday to be passed away?

Make time to save your pictures,
Seize the opportunity when it knocks,
Or someday you and yours could be,
The strangers in the box.

I have many "strangers in the box" pictures in my possession.  They are mostly from my Grandmother Mary Willie McClure Posey Casey's trunk.  It's so sad to not know who they are.  Here are some that I've shown on "The Tattler" in the past.

Info added March 5, 2011

Andy Watts, a great-grandson of Robert Wesley McClure, has the same photo and has this gentleman listed as Samuel McClure, Jr.

Samuel was born 9 Aug, 1825 and was married to Martha C. Clark on 24 Jan, 1850 in Calhoun/Clark County, Alabama.  I am also a great-grandchild of Robert Wesley McClure.  Thank you, Andy, for the identification.

Andy's Photo of Samuel R. McClure is the very
same as the one I have with no name.

The lady in the dark dress on the right is Sarah E., a daughter of Reuben and Mary Taylor.  She married John William Plikenton.  She would be a sister of Duane's great-grandmother, Catherine Eda Taylor Vaughn.  Does anyone have any idea who the other people are?

Update:  March 16, 2011  Who gave me this information as I am now not sure since this photo is one of my grandmother's and she would not have had a photo of Duane's family.

These came from a Huggins' descendent.  They could be Huggins, Reeds or Yances although the name Yances is unfamiliar to me.  Kristin said they are all locket sized pictures.  I have no idea where Dora got them.  You can view a larger version by clicking on this one (opens in a new window).

The picture came to me from Alma Jean Dicken Taylor through Wanda.  I had to call Wanda to be sure that was right. They could be from the Dicken Line, Miller Line, Riddle Line to name a few.  If you know where they come from and who they are, PLEASE contact me.

Do you know who we are?
We keep popping up in the
Tallant and Worthey lines.
If you can tell us who we are contact
Mary J. Tallant on this WebPage

Update 7-14-08:  Sandy Moore provided the picture above and the following information.

"My grandfather Oscar Floyd and grandmother Dessie Tallant lived for a while with my grandfathers uncle John L Tallant and wife Edna Alice in Hopkins County, John L is the brother of my great grandfather William Thomas Tallant.  I found the information on the 1920 census listing my grand parents as nephew and niece, along with my aunt Geneva as being 8 months old.  That would explain why the picture popped up in both the Tallant and Worthey side of the family, and no one knew who they were.

I have John L Tallant son of William T & Sarah born 1882 in Tennessee which makes him my great uncle. Married Edna Alice (last name unknown) born 10/3/1885 in Texas.  They had 2 children daughter Carrie born 1911, and son Ernest Eugene Tallant born 12/29/1912, died 12/4/1975 in Hopkins County.

I have not found anyone to confirm what I think so far, so the search continues........

Sandy"

Who are we?  Possibly of the Boren or Reed family.  If you could tell me who they are, thank you very much.  We would love to know them!
